Did TelstraClear just buy Orcon? (not seriously)

TelstraClear have their “PDQ” (Pretty Damn Quick) DSL broadband offering up, and I must say, I’m rather underwhelmed. This is the same pricing structure (only more expensive) that Orcon had, oh, this time last year.

  • Orcon: $39.95/month (2meg/128k) + $10 per 10G (+ $40/month telecom tax (oops, phoneline))
  • TCL: $36/month (2meg/128k) + $12/10G (+ $40/month telecom tax (oops, phoneline))
  • TCL Cable: $70/month (2meg/2meg, 20GB) – no phoneline required (tho it’s only $31 if you do get one)

Neither drop you down in speed if you go over – you just get charged for another “package” (which is GREAT!). I say Bravo to TCL for doing it, even if it’s not new :)

HOWEVER they have also doubled the speed of cable connections, so my old 2meg/2meg is now 4meg/2meg, at no extra charge. Yay!
