The Chicken Coop

Shopping the iTunes way

OK, so Leonie and I are over in LA at the moment (Aliso Viejo to be exact – right in the middle of “OC”). We have just got back from a little shopping at what must be the largest mall I’ve ever been in. Urgh. Not good. Take Manukau City shopping center in Auckland, or even Botony, and double or triple it in size. With added cheese (Christmas music. urgh).

The food, however, at PF Changs, was fantastic.

On the way out, we went via the Apple shop (well, I did…..). First up, the new Nano’s are seriously nice. In NZ, we dont get to actually TOUCH them (well, not in dick smith, anyway), and they just feel nice. I’m not about to throw my old Nano away, but if it breaks, I’d be getting one of the 8GB black ones for sure.

While in there, I grabbed a $15 iTunes store card. I figured that it’s designed for kids without credit cards (and I dont have a US credit card), so it should work if I at least lie about my address. And if not, it’s “only” $15, and I can always give it to someone here in the office.

10 mins later, I’m in and buying stuff. All good. I picked up an RPM track I’ve been looking for, a new Astral Projection single (The Prophecy) which is a really nice piece of Psytrance, going back to almost their roots, with a load of “spice” samples from Dune, and four tracks from the new Pitch Black EP, Lost in Trancelation. Now, I didn’t even know that PB had a new CD (I knew it was coming….), and it’s not available on the likes of Amplifier yet, either. Either way, definitely worth a listen, and I’ll be looking out for the rest of it, when released. I’m hoping the “unreleased” bits are some of their new stuff, ‘cos it rocks live.

The PB tracks are (so far, it’s only partially released) Freefall (Doof and Antix remixes), Ape to Angel (System Seven remix), Big Trouble Upstairs (Warp Technique Remix) and Empty Spaces, Missing Units (Kenji Williams Remix). The last remixer is someone I know (well…) from the first Northern Exposure (Sasha and Digweed) CD set, which is still a fav of mine, and his remix is a goodie.

Anyway, all good. Not too warm here in LA – it IS winter after all – but still warmer than Welli at the moment!
