OK, so Simo has “tagged” me. I normally dont bother with these things, but I’m in (very) good company (scottgu, scotth) , so here goes, first 5 things that come to mind:
- I used to swim competativly, which has totally killed any form of “fun” in the water. I just can’t do it…. I also used to play Underwater Hockey, which was a lot of fun. I stopped because of politics.
- I’m from Auckland, live in Wellington, and I spent 6 months in Germany (Reutlingen, near Stuttgart) on a student exchange in 1990 – I left about 2 weeks before the Berlin wall came down.
- I started writing software in 3rd form, using Turbo Pascal on a CPM machine with 8″ floppy disks. I started getting paid for it in my first year of uni. I’ve been doing it every since. In between that, I’ve mowed more lawns than I care to count, delivered more circulars than I want to think about, and even build fridges from scratch (big walk-in ones, and the large sliding door ones you get in bars)
- I have walked almost all of the great walks in NZ (I’ve not done the Milford yet – not sure if I want to), and a large number of the rest.
- I used to work for an ISP (ICONZ) back in the day when people really did ask “can I buy the internet please?”, email was $50/meg and data was $10/meg. It was a LOT of fun.
Now, it’s my turn to tag someone else. Let’s see if they do it (I know 1 or 2 of them would have a VERY interesting list)
- Juha Saarinen
- Rod Drury
- Chris Auld
- Leonie Wise (lets see if we can jump from geek space to “arty” space?)
- Alex James
