WTF is it with the weather here? (back in Welli)
Man! I never thought I’d consider posting about the weather(s). Tho this is also a test of Ecto….
I’ve heard of Jetlag, but weather-lag? (jet-weather?)?
- 3 fridays ago, I was in Wellington, at about 25 C.
- 2 fridays ago, I was in Madison, WI at about -14 C.
- 1 friday ago, I was in San Francisco at about 20 C.
- Today, I’m (just) in Wellington again, at about 12 C, windy, rain and thunderstorms. We have the gas fire on, for gods sake!
At least my body is so confused (including about the time, but thats to be expected) that the cold I had in SF has gone
Bring back the 25 C I say!
As for the trip (we got back about 4 hours ago):
- Madison was cool – or rather, damn cold. I don’t think I could live thru a winter there, but it was ok for 2 weeks. It’ll be lovely in May/June/July tho, and I’m looking forward to it.
- San Francisco has to be my favorite US city so far (NY is a close-ish second). It has all the style and friendliness of wellington, but on a larger scale – and with so many tech firms, small and large – it’s just not funny. Something to store away for later I think
Time to re-aquaint myself with RoR and Java. - I’m over airports. I’m also kinda over flying, tho we did come back in business class (thanks to free upgrades), and AirNZ’s business class IS fantastic. Time to consider new ways to see things, rather than flying from point to point (tho thats really been the only way so far). A rail journey from coast to coast thru the bottom of Canada is looking mighty good.
- I’ll say it again: I think I’ve only ever met the 49.9% of americans who voted for Gore/Kerry, cos they are all nice, sensible people. I’m not sure I want to met the other 50.1%. And yes, Fox News IS that fucked up. It’s scary. It’s like Radio Pacific, 1ZB et all rolled together, on a big bag of P. I learned quickly to skip that channel.
- Tad Williams is a lot more interesting (to me) than a sci-fi/fantasy author has any right to be (keep in mind I dont like reading sci-fi/fantasy
atleast not so far, tho I’m going to try some of his soon). Lovely guy, great to hear a real author (who Leonie has read all of) in person. - When I am traveling, other kiwi’s are usually so obvious. Of course, it helps if one of them is Sam Morgan (coming back from TED I assume). As soon as any kiwi’s open their mouths, the accent gives them (us) away. Thats not a bad thing at all.
Leonie has a load of photos of the trip here.
Anyway, time for some serious chill out, a REALLY early night, and (urgh) work in the morning.
