more on mobile broadband
AndyB reminded me that VFNZ has put pricing out for a more low-end friendly mobile internet option:
- $1/day for 10MB. $1/meg after that.
- $40/month for 200MB
- $60 for 1GB
- $80 for 3GB
The low end pricing looks very similar to the UK pricing – fixed daily rate – except there is no “bill shock” – the £1/day is basicly unlimited, tho like all of the unlimited plans, you can be asked to stop or be disconnected. Of course, it’s cheaper to pay £7.50/month and get it REALLY unlimited (semi-cap at 200MB).
It’s a good start, and it’ll really allow the likes of TradeMe and the American sites – Facebook, Bebo, MySpace – to be used on mobiles without people having to morgage their houses to use it.
Now, on to that iPhone pricing.

iphone is now $199 in NZ
2 year contract
No word on how much per mth the contract is yet
Plan pricing comes out tomorrow (Tuesday). Looks like NZ will be 1st to get the 3g phone – 12:01am 11th stores are opening!
