a fist full of dollars – the story of a kiva loan

Leonie and I have been lending thru Kiva for a number of a years now, and one of their “kiva fellows” (volenteers) has released a video showing what happens from the person lending the money (in this case, his co-workers at Credit Suisse in Canary Wharf, just up the road from us), right thru to the person receiving and paying back the money in Cambodia.

A Fistful Of Dollars: The Story of a Kiva.org Loan from Kieran Ball on Vimeo.

What got me about Kiva is just how simple it is. Anyone can lend to people in countries where small amounts of money – for us – mean a hell of a lot, and it feels really good to loan money to motivated people – rather than just give it for “aid”. More info here on the Kiva Fellows blog. I’d encourage anyone with a desire to help other people to get involved.
