google adds server active sync to google for apps

Yup, this means there is now push calendar and contacts (we have email via IMAP already) on the iphone, windows mobile, and blackberry, and SyncML (contacts) to the others (Android, Nokia et al). Link and Link.

Google Sync for Mobile is available for most mobile phones. On iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices Google Sync enables over-the-air synchronization of Google Calendar and Google Contacts to the built-in Calendar and Address Book applications on your phone. On most other mobile phones, Google Sync enables wireless synchronization of Google Contacts to the built-in Address Book application.

Google Sync (beta) is now available, and allows two-way push sync of Google Calendar and Gmail contacts data to iPhone and Windows Mobile devices through ActiveSync. Two-way contacts sync is also available for devices that support SyncML.

Editions included:
Standard, Premier, Education, Team and Partner Editions

For me, Google Apps is now complete – it does everything I used Exchange for. Everything. Thanks Google. For the $50/year, this is SO worth it. Definitely will be setting this up when I get back.

Oh, and Google App Engine updated their road map, with the addition of

  • Support for running scheduled tasks
  • Task queues for performing background processing
  • Ability to receive and process incoming email
  • Support for sending and receiving XMPP (Jabber) messages

That pretty much covers off most of the situtations – you can now serve pages, run tasks, queue and do pub/sub messaging via XMPP. Nice.
